{ THE MONROE FAMILY }
The Monroe family came to the United States in the 17th century. They made their fortune initially through the fur trade, later moving into other textiles, and by the 18th century were heavily involved in the real estate of Columbia City. There's little in the city that isn't owned or financed by the Monroe family. This and their long history within the city gives them incredible influence. The Monroes are known for their real estate empire and their generosity toward city institutions such as the city council, police and fire departments, and the Columbia City Herald.
Clarence Monroe
Patriarch of the Monroe family. At age 67, he is officially retired from the family's business ventures, but it's well known that he sways the decisions made by the younger members of the family.
Willis Monroe
Age 48. Head of the Monroe real estate empire. He's shrewd in his business dealings and continues in his father's wake of making the family money. He's rumored to have ties with the Giordano crime family through an affair with Lola Balducci.
Theodore "Teddy" Monroe
Age 43. Well-known for his activity in city politics. He sits on City Concil and is known to be close with the Mayor. Despite being at odds with the Black family, Teddy is frequently seen with Sasha Black.
Margo Monroe
Teddy's daughter. Debutante. Age 21. Margo is too young to wield much of her family's influence, but she plays the role of socialite well. She is frequently seen in public and is considered Columbia City's most eligible bachelorette.

{ THE BLACK FAMILY }
The Black family found wealth only a generation ago when Warren Black re-imagined the grocery store into its modern style. Though Black's grocery store idea took off and made his family wealthy, old money families (like the Monroes) still disdain them for being nouveau riche. Warren's daughter Sasha also added to the family's wealth and influence through her meteoric rise to stardom on the Silver Screen. The Blacks are well-known patrons of the local Columbia City arts and make frequent appearances on WCCR, Columbia City Radio.
Sasha Black
Age 34. An actress whose recent films have propelled her to stardom. She's known for her roles as a vamp in in pre-Hays Code Hollywood (that's still a few years away). Her friendship with Teddy Monroe is the source of much speculation.

{ THE GIORDANO CRIME FAMILY }
The Giordano crime family are known for running speakeasies and underground gambling rings in the North Side. They also have real estate dealings in Little Italy, where the family is based. They are the undisputed crime lords of the North Side of Columbia City with great influence over the police department and City Council thanks to dirt they've gathered on various public servants. They are rumored to have ties with the Monroe family.
Nicola "Nicky" Giordano
Boss of the Giordano crime family. Age 44. Nicky relies heavily on his cappos for running the various ventures of the family, but is the final authority on all their actions. He is rumored to have sway over the Monroe family.
Lola Balducci
Nicky's sister. Age 37. Lola runs the family's most successful underground casino, featuring a variety of on-site gambling, booze, and showgirls. It's rumored she runs the family's prostitution ring, but there's been no real evidence. Since her husband's death, Lola has been carrying on an affair with Willis Monroe.
Other known members:
Vito Leone and Gianni Bianco are well-known enforcers. They are in charage of collecting protection moneys and dealing with any problems that may come up before they become they become problems for Nicky or Lola. They're not the sort of people you want knocking on your door.

{ THE SOUTH SIDE SYNDICATE }
While the Italians run the North Side of town, the Irish rule in the South. Catering to the poor and unfortunate of the South Side, the Syndicate provides the same amenities as the Giordanos in the North. They run speakeasyies and casinos for the lower classes. They also run the docks and have a great deal of sway over shipping in the area.
Daniel "Danny" Gallagher
Syndicate boss. Age 36. A new boss of the Syndicate after a bloody power struggle some years prior. Danny is more hands-on than his Italian counterpart, making frequent visits to the underground businesses his group runs. He is often found at the docks.
Other known members:

{ THE QIÓNGQÍ (窮奇) }
The newest crime organization to Columbia City. Run by Chinese immigrants, they've established dominance in the West Side. However, they are more expansive, dealing in drugs, human trafficking, and prostitutionmore openly than the other groups. This gives them footholds in territory outside of the West Side and Chinatown, making them true competition.
Wú Hàoxuān (吳浩轩)
Leader of the Qióngqí. Age 33. Wú Hàoxuān keeps his hands clean publicly. He has a veritable army of men and women under his sway and at his command to deal with any situations that may arise without his involvement. Wú Hàoxuān has the same sort of influence in the Chinese immigrant community (and thus, the West Side) as the Monroes hold over the whole city.
